New Features of the 2nd Edition:July 2009

  • Many of the patterns from the ‘Pattern in Islamic Art’ website are now readily linkable to Brian Wichmann’s ‘Tilingsearch’ site [http://tilingsearch.org/]. This provides high quality digitised images of the tiling involved, the symmetry group to which they belong, and various other details of their geometry. It also provides extensive references to authoritative published versions of particular patterns. It is hoped that this facility will eventually extend to the bulk of the geometric patterns found in the ‘Pattern in Islamic Art’ website.

  • The ‘Drawings, Diagrams & Analyses’ section has been moved and expanded. It now includes Nick Crossling’s recent ‘Investigations into 10-fold geometric patterns from ‘The Topkapi Scroll’.

  • The new edition also sees the beginning of a complete revision of the info-panels that accompany the images onsite. Beginning with Egypt, this program of corrections and improvements will eventually extend to all the regions covered by this archive.
